The Cultural Movement of Argentinian
Canyengue, a non-profit organisation,
was founded in 2002 with the aim to
promote tango canyengue by showing
the unique qualities of this original variety
of tango dance. I had this idea and told
Marta about it, who immediately liked it.
Together with El Gallego Manolo and
Adrian we put the name in place and
started the Mo.C.C.A. movement.

Canyengue is the easiest style of tango,
it neither has the basic step nor the
turns of tango salon. It allows you to
play, to maintain contact with your
partner and to enjoy  dancing together.

Mo.C.C.A. now organises a weekly tango
canyengue practice in Buenos Aires and
there are regular classes by teachers
trained by the association. And then
there is the association's annual
CaMiCando festival (www.camicando.org),
every March, where canyengue teachers
and students come from all over the
world to learn and dance together.

Our main objective now is to contribute
socially to the development of our
beloved country and also ecologically to
the protection of our natural
environment.

The work of Mo.C.C.A is carried by our
passion for tango canyenge, we transmit
the structure and feeling of it, then it's
up to each one to give the dance his or
her own expression. There are those
who capture the essence of this dance
immediately, and others who take their
time to get into the spirit of canyengue.

It is true that tango canyengue was born
a long time ago - it is one of the original
roots styles of tango – but this does not
mean that it is antiquated and for the
museum. Today, in 2008, we are more
and more who dance and enjoy this
vibrant dance, in Argentina and all over
the world.
